Stainless Steel / Europa Barbacoa are amazing mods that keep the spirit of the game, but improve the experience and immersion by leaps and bounds. If you enjoy Rome or Med 2 a lot, consider putting one of the popular mods on it too.

If you want a modern TW, go with Attilla or Warhammer. I've never played Rome 2, but I've heard terrible things about it. If you don't set the campaign difficulty to VH, the other factions will just flounder about ineffectually, and the game won't be challenging. And starting off, play the campaign on Very Hard campaign / Normal battle. If it is better than that I will be really happy, and if not I won't really mind, because that itself is a nice addition.

Both are great and leave you well immersed into the setting, but like I've said they have some quirks that experienced players enjoy, while brand new players would be turned off by.ĭefinitely recommend that you pick up those 3. There are bowstring animations in the Third Age: Total War mod for M2:TW, which are pretty good, though the arrow does just appear and the bow string is drawn back. Next choice would be Medieval 2 or Shogun 2. Seriously, get a general who is crazy or is hectored by his mother in-law, you get some seriously hilarious battle speeches. It also has the best flavor text and battle speeches. Rome 1 also has Barbarian Invasion attached to it, basically an apocalypse scenario mini campaign. Mabye AoE rat still has the graphics, I think the Storm Troopers are better then the SWGB ones. Medieval and Shogun have some quirks that will hamper your experience if you're brand new to the game. The mod was obviously never finished but I can tell it was ment for the expansion pack, cause the AT-AT looks like it replaces the War Wagon, which is an XPACK unit, I can tell cause the War Wagon has the biggest circle in the game. If you want the best experience, pick Rome 1 first.
